Barcelona have completed the signing of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Gavi for a fee of €25 million ($27.4 million) as part of a surprise transfer deal that has taken football by storm.
The deal, which was announced on Tuesday, sees Gavi move from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona in exchange for the services of Spanish midfielder Pedri.
Pedri, who is just 18 years old, will join Barcelona's youth academy and play for their under-23 team next season.
Gavi, meanwhile, will be expected to take over from Marc-André ter Stegen at Barcelona, with the German international moving to Inter Milan on loan.
Barcelona were keen to sign Gavi due to his impressive performances for Atletico Madrid this season, where he has made 16 appearances and kept four clean sheets.
He also has experience playing for the Spain national team, having been called up to the squad for Euro 2020.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, had been linked with Gavi for several months but could not agree terms with Atletico Madrid.
The transfer deal marks a significant coup for Barcelona, who are currently second in La Liga behind Atletico Madrid.
It also marks a new era for Atletico Madrid, who have lost key players such as Antoine Griezmann and Joao Felix to bigger clubs this summer.
Overall, the transfer deal between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid is a major statement of intent from both sides, with Barcelona looking to strengthen their position in La Liga while Atletico Madrid look to continue building their squad for the upcoming season.
