Alan Varela, one of the most promising young talents in Portuguese football, has been ruled out of action for at least three months with a serious knee injury.

The midfielder was stretchered off during FC Porto's match against Vitória de Guimarães last week and it was confirmed that he would be out for at least two to three weeks.

Varela, who is only 21 years old, has already made a name for himself in European football with his impressive performances for Portugal's U-21 team.

He signed for FC Porto from Benfica in August 2019 and has already made over 40 appearances for the club.

The news of Varela's injury comes as a blow for both him and FC Porto, who will now have to find a replacement for their key player.

Despite being sidelined for such a long time, Varela remains hopeful of making a full recovery and returning to action soon.

In the meantime, FC Porto will need to rely on their other midfielders to step up and fill the void left by Varela's absence.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out without Varela, but hopefully, he can make a swift return to fitness and resume his impressive form.

For now, FC Porto will have to continue to look towards the future and hope that they can find a way to cope without their star player.
