Alan Varela is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers in history, and he spent most of his career playing for FC Porto. He was born on September 24, 1966, in Portugal and started his professional career with Sporting CP before moving to Porto in 1988.
Varela's time at Porto was marked by incredible performances, including scoring record-breaking goals and winning numerous titles. In fact, he holds the club record for most goals scored in a single season (57) and has also won four league titles and two Portuguese Cups during his time there.
One of Varela's most memorable moments came in the 1991–92 season when he scored a hat-trick against Benfica, helping Porto win their first league title in 19 years. He also scored a goal in the final of the UEFA Cup in 1992, which helped Porto win the tournament for the first time in their history.
Despite retiring from professional football in 1995, Varela continued to play for Porto's reserve team until 2004. He passed away on May 24, 2017, at the age of 50, but his legacy as one of the greatest footballers in history will live on forever.
